Manly push ups and 20 seconds faster

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Amanda and I have lost our minds and signed up for a second round of boot camp.  The last day of the first 6 weeks was last Friday and our assessment went great.  I completed the run 20 seconds faster than at the beginning of the 6 weeks, and my push up and sit up count improved as well.  Both Amanda and I doubled our plank time to 1:30.

Feeling good about our accomplishments, we signed up for another 6 weeks hoping to continue the pattern.  Then we both bailed out of class on Monday.  After Novie and Vivek’s wedding, I was too sleepy to get out of bed and Amanda agreed.  We did get up Tuesday morning and did some cardio at Amanda’s apartment complex just so we didn’t completely screw up at the assessment today.

Today’s assessment started out with push ups.  Amanda and I agreed to do “manly” push ups on our toes, instead of our usual modified version (”girlie”, although we aren’t allowed to say that in front of our trainer).  To my surprise, I was able to complete 25!  If that isn’t a testament to how well boot camp is working for us, I don’t know what is.  I upped my plank time to about 1:45, but my run and sit up were the same as last Friday.  So I’m working to improve on those during this next 6 weeks.  I will be missing 1 week of class while we go on our honeymoon, but I think I can still pull off some improvements.

We partied like Rock Stars

Last week was amazing.  Our friends Vivek and Novie had their wedding (finally!) and there were 4 days of fun-filled events to attend.  I know the Noviv’s were stressed by the crazy amount of things they needed to do, but by the end of the 4 days you could see the happiness on their faces.  I remember feeling the exact same way the day of our wedding just a few months ago and it makes me so happy to know they experienced that as well.

On Wednesday the girls attended a Mendhi ceremony at the house of Vivek’s parents.  I wasn’t able to stay all night, but I did participate in parts of it.  Below is my “tattoo” with the paste still applied.  It dries for awhile and eventually flakes off revealing the pattern on the skin.

It was nice to hang out with the girls and take a few minutes to talk with Novie about boring everyday things.  I hope it helped take her mind off her super busy schedule, if only for a few minutes!

Thursday evening was the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner at III Forks.  Super yummy food and great company.  It was so nice to catch up with all of our friends who came in from out of town.  Novie and Viv also assembled some pics for a cute slide show that made everyone laugh.  It was a great personal touch to the evening.

Friday we attended the Indian ceremony and reception at Vivek’s parents country club.  I have never attended this ceremony before, so it was very interesting to see how another culture treats a marriage.  The priest also stopped between each part of the ceremony to explain in English what was going on - I really appreciated that!  Novie and Vivek were decked out in traditional clothing and I hardly recognized them!  They looked great though and the evening was so much fun.

Saturday was the last day of the formal events.  We attended a beautiful Catholic ceremony in the afternoon.  Novie’s mom took part in the ceremony by singing parts of the service.  Now we know where Novie’s great singing voice came from!  Her sister Grace also did some readings as well as our friend Ryan.  Except for a mishap with the Unity candle, the ceremony was flawless and you could see how excited they were to be married!  After the service we went to the Ritz-Carlton in Dallas for a cocktail hour and dinner reception.  I’ve posted pics below of the ceremony and reception, and you can see what an amazing job all of their vendors did in creating an amazing setting for their wedding.  Novie and Viv added their own personality to the evening as well with Novie even singing a song for Vivek - what a great surprise for everyone!  Blake and I were honored to be guests at their wedding and we wish them all of the best!

What a comfy place for a nap…

Thanks to a gift from Ben, I’m now able to snap pictures of all the strange things the puppies do during the day.  Today Shelby found a new napping spot…
